Andréa Meyer Medrado
Contributing Writer

Andréa is a Fulbright scholar and has earned a M.A in Communication & Society from the University of Oregon. As a graduate student, she conducted a research project on community media in Favela da Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro (the largest shanty town in Latin America). Andréa has also lived in the Bay Area, where she taught Portuguese language at the University of California, Berkeley. She currently works as an advertising copywriter and college professor in Salvador in Bahia, Brazil. Andréa feels like she is divided between two worlds: she is passionate about social justice but her job involves stimulating consumerism. She is also a feminist who criticizes women´s slavery to unrealistic beauty patterns but cannot help going on a diet every once in a while.
